As always, I love when you play around with my recipes to make them your own creations. Get creative, have a little fun and see what yumminess you can come up with! I’ve added some orange zest to these before and wow is it good. I think mint would be absolutely divine, too. And I may or may not have dipped these in peanut butter Just sayin’!
Ok, that’s all for today. Have fun with this recipe! I think you’ll fall in love with these at first bite. And don’t forget to leave me a comment – I always love hearing from you. And if you play around with the recipe, let us know your favorite additions so we can all try it, too!
Healthy Brownie Bites Recipe:
- pitted dates, about 18 dates (I use THESE) 1 cup
- ⅓ cup raw nuts of choice (walnuts, almonds or pecans are a good choice or any combination of nuts that you can think of!)
- ⅓ cup raw seeds of choice (I love using THESE pumpkin seeds the best!)
- ⅓ cup unsweetened coconut flakes (find HERE)
- ⅓ cup raw cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa powder (I use THIS)
- optional: 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract, pinch of sea salt
- Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor and process until everything is finely chopped and clumped together.
- Form into balls and refrigerate. You can eat them right away, but I think they are best eaten chilled, right out of the fridge Enjoy!

I LOVE coconut, but my family does not. What could I substitute?
Hi June! You can just substitute more nuts or seeds! When I ran out of coconut that’s what I do and it always turns out great
I bet these would be great with a dash of cayenne. Yum!
I like the way you think!
Do you think these would freeze okay? I am gearing up for having a baby and trying to freeze stuff for the first few weeks!
Yes, they freeze really well! Great idea and congrats!! <3
I can not have dates (food sensitivity) is there anything else I could use instead?
Hi Anna, what about figs? I think that would be a great substitute if you can have them! You probably wouldn’t need as many since figs are bigger. I would do about 8 figs for this recipe and see if that works. If the mixture isn’t sticking together well, add 1-2 more at a time until it comes together.
Has anyone tried to add a protein powder to these?
Hi! How are you? It’s Liz “Nourish Me Primally” these look lovely! How would you compare their sweetness to Lara Bars?
Thank you!
Hi Liz!! <3 I haven't had a LaraBar in a long time, but from what I remember, these are probably pretty similar - perhaps a little less sweet. Definitely not sweeter. Hope all is well!!
These look scrummy and I will make some today. I make a date ball which is similar but I add coconut oil to the mixture, which helps to bind them. I also soak the dates in a little hot water for 10 minutes first and this also makes the mixture more binding I think. I love the idea of a dash of cayenne!! Thank you for the recipe
.
Thanks, Brenda! Love your tips!
Simple and very healthy!
Hi, these are amazing! I made them up but I did have problems with them binding (I think the dates I got were too dry, but I thought… these are way to good to throw away, so I found a vegan version of a chocolate cream pie, and as I do not care for traditional crust, I used these for my crust, I took it to my church potluck and I had so many people coming up to me wanting the recipe. Thanks so much for sharing!
Brilliant, Connie! So glad you were able to make it work! I want a bite of that pie – sounds so good!!
This is a delicious combination of flavors and textures. I followed your recipe exactly, and added finely grated zest of an orange. I love chocolate and orange together. So it worked !
Thanks for the great recipe.
That sounds awesome, Karin! Chocolate and orange is one of my favorite flavor combos, too.
AMAZING RECIPE! Thank you so much. My 2-year-old and I made these today and they are so delicious. It is a very quick and kid-friendly recipe. Maybe next time we will try and add a little cinnamon, that could be good too
So happy to hear this, Marlene! It’s always especially nice to hear when kids approve too
